Consular services

The consular service assists Malagasy nationals residing in or visiting South Africa, and the countries of the jurisdiction, with all their administrative procedures. Booking an appointment in advance is recommended.

01 Consular registration

Registration in the consular register is strongly advised for every Malagasy national living in South Africa. It facilitates the issuance of documents, consular protection and information in case of emergency.

Documents required

• Completed registration form;
• Copy of the Malagasy passport or national ID card;
• Two recent passport photos;
• Proof of residence in South Africa.

02 Civil status

The Embassy receives and forwards civil-status records to the competent Malagasy authorities:

• Birth — declaration and transcription of a child born in South Africa;
• Marriage — transcription of a marriage celebrated abroad;
• Acknowledgement and other records;
• Issuance of copies and extracts, subject to processing times.

03 Other administrative procedures

• Legalisation and certified true copies of documents;
• Powers of attorney and various attestations;
• Assistance to nationals in difficulty;
• Referral to the competent services in Madagascar.

04 Passport & travel document

Passport applications are processed by the Embassy and forwarded to the authorities in Antananarivo. In case of loss, theft or emergency, a travel document (laissez-passer) may be issued to allow return to Madagascar.
