South African nationals and foreigners residing in South Africa need a visa to enter Madagascar. The Embassy issues entry and stay visas and processes specific applications.

01 Entry and stay visas

Short stay (≤ 30 days)Short tourism or business trips. Often available on arrival; check the current conditions.
Stay (30 – 90 days)Extended tourism, missions, family visits.
Long stay / convertibleWork, investment, family reunification. File processed with the authorities in Madagascar.

Documents usually required

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months after the return date;
  • Completed application form and passport photo;
  • Return ticket and proof of accommodation;
  • Supporting documents according to the purpose of the stay.

02 Film shooting in Madagascar

Filming projects (cinema, documentary, reportage) are subject to a specific procedure and prior authorisation. Prepare your file in advance: synopsis, shooting plan, list of equipment and crew.

  • Fees paid according to the scale in force.
